How common is obesity in cats?

In their latest report, The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP)—a non-profit organization consisting of licensed veterinarians, nutritionists, and internal medicine specialists—found that about 55% of cats in the US are obese or overweight. Their data found that pet obesity is the most common medical disorder facing the veterinary industry.

A chonky cat might look cute, but feline obesity can take a toll on your sweet fluff in many different ways. Obesity reduces your cat’s health and well-being and can lead to other diseases and problems, especially later in life. Taking preventative measures to ensure your cat’s weight remains in check can extend the life expectancy of your pet!
