How do you remove skunk smell from your dog?

As cute as a skunk may be, their odor is anything but! Dogs tend to run after these critters, which in turn can leave them smelling pretty foul after a skunk lets out its best defense. There are a couple of ways to get rid of the skunk smell from a dog.

One is to buy a commercial de-skunking product, which you spray on your dog. (Follow the label instructions for usage.)

Another option is to combine one part baking soda with three parts hydrogen peroxide and apply it to your dog’s coat. Let it set before bathing. You may need to repeat it several times.

Pet Parent Tip

Our dog recently was sprayed by a skunk. Instead of tomato juice we used:
1 qt of rubbing alcohol or vinegar
1 table spoon dish soap
1/4 cub baking soda
It worked great. A skunk is no joke!
