What causes dog anxiety?

There are a number of reasons why dogs can become anxious. One of the most common causes is separation anxiety, which is often triggered by boredom, loneliness, and in some cases past negative experiences associated with being alone.

Some dogs also have anxiety due to their time spent in a rescue facility, former shelter, or previous home. In these cases, dogs might have dealt with unpredictable routines or intense environments.

Additionally, some dogs experience social anxiety when dealing with new people or pets—particularly if they've had prior negative experiences or no experiences at all.

Others yet deal with illness-related anxiety where they're not feeling their best and are therefore on edge.
